REVIEWS

A Tale of Two cities is one of Dickens' novels based on historical events. The event is the French Revolution and the two cities involved are Paris and London. This is a classic that explores the French Revolution from how the peasants were abused by the aristocracy and then after the revolution, how the revolutionaries brutalized the former aristocrats. It is also the story of how the lives of characters from Paris and England became intertwined. In spite of this being a novel it has many historical references and information. This is a bit of a dark tale because much of the subject matter is rather dark and yet Dickens is able to inject his wit and humor even if done so sarcastically. In spite of this the language barriers of old English and literal French translations may make it difficult for some to pick up on the humor of Dickens. This is a classic that has been made into several movies and even a couple of musicals. Sharpen up your literary skills and your history with this classic work from a master.
